Occasionally we host an open band in the family dance series .. the dates of those dances will be marked in the above schedule sooo... if you play fiddle or mandolin or banjo or or any string instrument, and can play fiddle tunes up to dance tempo .. then bring your instrument and show up at the door.. bring your mom and dad ,too ..! play for while, dance for a while, then potluck for a while .. what a great way to spend saturday afternoon..! Here's a few tunes that we'll most likely play ... we probably won't play all of these tunes, but we'll play a lot of them ... so if you practice some of these, you'll be ready .. Again, you must be able to play dance tempo (generally q=180 to 220 bpm) to sit in .. if you're taking lessons, your teacher can help you with this .. if you can't play up to dance tempo, learn the waltzes .. the waltz is always the very last tune, and it is much slower .. we'll always play at least one waltz, but may play two if a lotta players show up ..

LBDA general informationThe Lawrence Barn Dance Association (LBDA) organizes contra dances, workshops, and special events in the Lawrence, Kansas area with the goal of promoting community through dance and music, and having fun in the process! Regular Events The LBDA holds a regular contra dance, usually on the third saturday of the month. Beginners are always welcome at these dances. When a month has five saturdays, we add a "Blue Moon" dance for more experienced dancers only on that fifth saturday; this in addition to the regular dance. In order to avoid schedule conflict with some community music events, we occasionally alter the date of our dances .. Special Events We also have special events from time to time, ranging from family dances and dance parties, to our annual dance weekend each November. Our 13th Annual Pilgrim's Progression Dance Weekend was November 16 - 18, 2007. We danced to the calling of Sue Rosen and live music by Phantom Power (Bruce Rosen and Lissa Schneckenburger), they were joined by special guest musicians Stefan Amidon and Mark Roberts. For more information, contact LBDA. ... and so you don't miss out, check the LBDA site to see what else is happening when.
